Why does ShareShed exist?

Everyone deserves the opportunity to make the most of their free time and live vibrantly. We’re here to foster a community that values making outdoor recreation accessible to everyone.

A simple idea of renting the outdoor gear we own does so much to our world:

  • 2) We put our money into the local economy
  • 3) We save money by having access to all the gear we could ever want
  • 4) We create a more sustainable lifestyle but renting instead of buying new

Why outdoor goods?

Experiencing nature is an innate human desire. The biggest barrier to experiencing outdoor activities is access to gear. By providing a platform for people to connect and rent gear, we provide a platform for people to reconnect with nature.

Can someone else manage my inventory of gear that I own?

Yes, we have ShareShed enthusiasts that are stoked to help you rent out your gear. Email us if you would like to be connected to a community gear manager in your area.

How does ShareShed work?

As a user on ShareShed you can make money by lending/renting the gear you own to others and/or you can have access to any gear you don't own by borrowing/renting it off of someone awesome.

What is ShareShed?

We are a website and mobile app (coming soon) that connects people with gear to people who need access to gear.

How does the payment structure work?

ShareShed charges hosts a 15% service fee on all bookings. This is subtracted from the subtotal (the listing price before the guest’s service fee is added). For example, for a 2-day booking at a daily rate of $20, the host service fee is calculated as follows:

Subtotal 2 * $20 = $40

Payout $40 - (0.15 * $40) = $34

Service Fee $40 - $34 = $6

Hosts can see the amount of the service fee and a detailed summary of the transaction in their ShareShed via the ‘Transfers’ section of the host dashboard.

Guests can see the amount of the service fee and a detailed summary of the transaction in their ShareShed via the ‘My Bookings’ section of the guest dashboard.

What if I lend out my gear and it gets broken?

Not to worry, we have insurance to cover that. ShareShed takes a percentage of the transaction and part of that money goes towards insuring the product that is lent out. For products to be covered by our insurance the transaction must have taken place over the ShareShed website and a claim must be submitted within 72 hours after the return date of the item.

How much does ShareShed’s insurance cover?

ShareShed’s insurance will cover up to a $500 guarantee for your gear item. Once again, the transaction must have taken place over ShareShed.ca, and a claim must be submitted to info@shareshed.ca within 72 hours after the return date of the item.

Can someone else manage my inventory of gear that I own?

Yes, just like property managers using Airbnb to rent out other people's homes there are also ShareShed enthusiasts that are stoked to help you rent out your gear. Email us if you would like to be connected to a community gear manager in your area.

Where is ShareShed located?

Currently we are controlling our growth and focusing solely on Vancouver, BC. Shoot us an email if you'd like to be a ShareShed ambassador to a new area. We're happy to help you start up.

Is ShareShed only peer-to-peer or is it also available for rental stores to rent out the gear they have stocked?

Both peer-to-peer and B2C! We help community members connect with local stores that offer short-term rentals. This is a great way for organizations to connect with their following, provide a platform for people to trial equipment, and increase their triple bottom line.
